Oh dibaa? It took me 8 days after watching the movie - team 6pm; July 31 - and this is the only time that I had the chance to write. I need to rewatch it - team 10pm; August 2 - and I have no regrets as not only I treated myself with an impeccable movie but moreso, allowing myself to feel the pleasure that I found in pain that this movie owned. Gameboys The Movie did not disappoint.
To tackle a sensitive subject as religion affecting the LGBTQIA+ community and I think it's a suicide to take that route considering the culture that we have, is by far the bravest material The Idea First Company came up to. From the first trailer - which was supposed to be for season 2 before the rework that they did - I was worried that it will take a toll on everyone working on the project. Showing something like this to a Catholic nation, imagine the people who can or may take this on a bad light.
But after watching, I realized that it is actually the beauty of its narrative. It was supposed to send a message. And the message came across - and it was presented in a most respectful way. And as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, it made me so proud.
There are a lot of remarkable scenes but three were outstanding. Clue? I can't. I don't want to get a memo LOL. All I can say is the songs made it flew the highest. Those were tastefully executed. So pure... That I literally cried, and up to now I'm still enjoying this fervor. Quality in its finest sense.
Kokoy De Santos and Elijah Canlas will always deliver. The words may be a joke to them now but yes, their performance were surreal and magical. The passion of these actors was highly notable. Both of them were determined and knew their assignments, especially Kokoy who made the most out of the moment. Jelo was right - binigay lahat ni Kokoy dito.
As I end this review, I guess it is safe to say that the movie was really more than an excellent work of art mainly because of the purpose that it wished to serve. And I feel that it was communicated well.
The Gameboys story will always be on the map. Its vision and scope will lead its audience, whether an LGBTQIA+ member or an ally, to the freedom from the stigma.
Can't wait for a more detailed season 2. 🎮❤️
